“Not knowing when the dawn will come, I open every door.”
—Emily Dickinson
Clinical Director | Psychologist | Clinical Social Worker | Educator
My work begins with a simple belief: people grow best when they have space to explore their inner world in a safe and supportive environment. I try to meet every person with steadiness, curiosity, and respect for their lived experience.
As both a psychologist and a social worker, I understand individuals not only through their internal emotional life but also through the systems they move through. These systems can be as intimate as a family and as large as an organization or community. I believe emotional health is influenced by both personal history and the structures surrounding a person. Helping clients navigate these systems is a key part of my clinical work, whether that involves understanding family patterns, managing workplace pressures, or finding a sense of belonging in the larger community.
I focus on long term, depth oriented psychotherapy. I believe that meaningful change develops through steady and careful exploration rather than quick solutions. My clinical work draws from psychodynamic, relational, and integrative perspectives that help people understand the deeper patterns shaping their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Long term therapy gives us time to see how past experiences influence current struggles and to work through the themes that affect how a person feels, relates, and makes decisions.
I work with adults who are navigating relationship stress, work pressure, identity questions, family of origin conflicts, emotional overwhelm, and moments of transition. Many of my clients are physicians, executives, and professionals with demanding responsibilities who need a place to think, feel, and reflect without judgment. Others come to me during important turning points in their lives, such as changes in parenting, partnerships, or careers.
I am especially drawn to people who spend much of their lives caring for others while disconnecting from their own needs. Depth oriented therapy helps clients slow down, reconnect with their emotions, and develop a stronger sense of who they are. My style is collaborative and reflective. I focus on insight, emotional awareness, and practical steps that lead to steady, long term growth. I believe change unfolds gradually through curiosity, honest conversation, and consistent therapeutic work.
Teaching and training are central to my identity. As a former adjunct instructor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, I taught courses on diversity in clinical practice, psychoanalytic approaches, lifespan development, and the emotional foundations of behavior. I encourage developing clinicians to think carefully, act ethically, and understand themselves as part of the therapeutic process.
In 2010, I founded the Advanced Psychotherapy Training Program at Psychiatric and Psychological Specialties to help bridge academic learning with the realities of clinical work. This two year post graduate fellowship includes weekly seminars, small supervision groups, individual mentorship, and case conferences. The program welcomes trainees from psychology, psychiatry, social work, and counseling. It is known for its focus on depth oriented psychotherapy, strong conceptual thinking, and the belief that clinicians grow through careful reflection, close supervision, and a respect for the complexity of human experience. I designed the program to reflect values that matter to me: intellectual curiosity, self-reflection, emotional integrity, and the belief that growth is an ongoing process.
As Clinical Director, I lead with a big tent philosophy. I welcome different professional backgrounds, theoretical approaches, and personal identities. I believe organizations thrive when people feel supported, invested in, and connected to a shared purpose. At Psychiatric and Psychological Specialties, my business partner, Dr. Michelle Kachman, and I oversee an interdisciplinary team of therapists, psychiatric providers, and trainees. I guide recruitment, clinical supervision, training, and operations with an emphasis on professional excellence, clarity, effectiveness, accountability, and belonging. We build a team of professionals around each patient, drawing on different specialties and perspectives to offer care that is thorough, integrated, and responsive to their needs.
My values shape how I work and how I lead. I care about wellness and helping people find balance in mind, body, work, and life. I value growth, development, and lifelong learning. Integrity, ethics, and excellence guide my decisions. I believe in holding complexity and respecting the many layers of human experience. I value relationships, belonging, and community. I believe in compassion and service, and in the importance of making a meaningful difference. I value discipline, motivation, and purpose. I appreciate diversity in identities, backgrounds, ideas, and approaches. I value creativity, flexibility, and authenticity. Above all, I value safety and trust, because real change requires both.
