Advanced Psychotherapy Fellowship
READY TO PUT YOUR DEGREE TO WORK?
YOUR FIRST BIG STEP FROM GRADUATE TO PROFESSIONAL DEPTH-ORIENTED THERAPIST
Our Mission: We promote mental wellness through quality therapy, assessment, and medication management, with a special emphasis on depth-oriented approaches that create lasting change. Our diverse team collaborates to create a supportive environment where both clients and clinicians can thrive.
About Us: We're Psychiatric and Psychological Specialties (PPS) – a unique practice that values both contemporary and traditional approaches to psychotherapy. Our team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and counselors is committed to providing depth-oriented care that addresses root causes rather than just managing symptoms. While we have physical offices in Southwestern Michigan and Chicago, we embrace the digital age as a primarily telehealth practice.
Beyond Quick Fixes: Become a Depth-Oriented Therapist
While many settings push for brief interventions, our program is uniquely focused on training you in the increasingly rare art of long-term, depth-oriented psychotherapy. Here you'll learn to:
Work beyond symptoms to address underlying patterns and dynamics
Develop the clinical patience to allow meaningful change to unfold
Navigate the complex phases of long-term therapeutic relationships
Build a therapeutic presence that creates space for deeper exploration
Balance concrete interventions with process-oriented approaches
From Textbook to Real Life: Depth-Oriented Training
Our 24-month program bridges that giant gap between your academic training and being a confident, licensed therapist who can work at deeper levels with clients. You'll:
Master Multiple Depth Approaches: Apply psychodynamic, relational, existential, and other models that address root causes rather than just symptoms
Join a Team of Depth Specialists: Work alongside clinicians who value the transformative power of long-term therapeutic relationships
Go Beyond Quick Fixes: Learn how to create genuine, lasting change through sustained therapeutic work
Follow Cases Through Their Evolution: Experience the full arc of long-term therapy, from initial assessment through termination
Build a Caseload with Continuity: Develop relationships with clients that allow you to witness and facilitate profound change
Why This Program Is Perfect for New Grads:
Grad school taught you the theories, but now you need real-world experience. Our two-year program is designed specifically for fresh graduates looking to transform classroom knowledge into clinical confidence. You'll get:
Personalized Mentorship: Supervision from seasoned professionals who specialize in depth-oriented approaches
Skill-Building with small-group learning, where the complexities of deep clinical work are explored openly
Career Development that focuses on developing a diverse caseload with a variety of clinical presentations
Licensure supervision for counselors, social workers, and psychologists
Depth Therapy Skills You'll Develop:
Therapeutic Presence: Cultivating the ability to sit with difficult emotions and existential themes
Dynamic Formulation: Creating sophisticated case conceptualizations that capture unconscious processes
Process Recognition: Identifying transference, countertransference, and in-session dynamics
Therapeutic Frame: Establishing and maintaining boundaries that facilitate deeper work
Interpretive Skills: Developing well-timed interventions that illuminate unconscious patterns
Containment: Holding space for intense affect and challenging material
Working Through: Facilitating the processing of core conflicts and developmental wounds
Long-Term Case Management: Navigating the phases and challenges of extended therapeutic relationships
Self-Reflection: Using your own reactions as clinical data to inform treatment
Integration: Blending depth approaches with other modalities when clinically indicated
What You'll Actually Do: Deep Clinical Work That Matters
You'll primarily provide long-term individual therapy to adults while getting involved in other clinical activities. From day one, you'll be doing meaningful clinical work that goes beyond surface-level interventions. The deep therapeutic work you'll engage in:
Exploring underlying dynamics of depression and anxiety rather than just symptom management
Characterological issues and recurring patterns
Major life transitions as opportunities for deeper growth
Complex grief and loss exploration
Relationship patterns and attachment styles
Integration of medication with psychological insight
Existential aspects of chronic illness
