Our Story

Founder’s Legacy

Raghu Ram Veeramasuneni, MD (1947–2025)

Psychiatric & Psychological Specialties was founded in 1993 by Raghu Ram Veeramasuneni, whose belief in compassionate, relationship centered care continues to shape the practice today. He understood mental health treatment as a process that begins with listening, curiosity, and respect for each person’s lived experience, held within the context of relationships, culture, and history.

Dr. Raghu was known for his calm presence, warmth, and ability to make complex ideas feel accessible and human. Patients trusted him for his thoughtful care, steady demeanor, and genuine interest in their stories. He valued the therapeutic relationship as central to healing and approached his work with humility, care, and deep respect.

Beyond his work with patients, Dr. Raghu was a mentor, community presence, and quiet source of support to many. His generosity, commitment to service, and belief in caring beyond oneself shaped the spirit of the practice and the way clinicians relate to those they serve.

The values he lived by compassion, integrity, thoughtfulness, and humanity remain central to Psychiatric & Psychological Specialties and continue to guide its work.

Continuing the Vision

Psychiatric & Psychological Specialties carries forward the vision established by Dr. Raghu while continuing to grow thoughtfully in response to the complexity of modern mental health care. The practice remains grounded in the belief that meaningful healing requires more than symptom reduction. It requires time, relationship, curiosity, and a willingness to hold the full complexity of the human experience.

Relationships remain central to our work. We believe healing occurs within safe, respectful, and authentic connections, whether between patient and clinician or among colleagues working together toward shared goals. Integrity, trust, and compassion guide how we practice, collaborate, and serve our community.

At the same time, the practice continues to evolve. Services are offered through both in-person and telehealth care across Michigan, Illinois, and additional states, expanding access while preserving the personalized, relational approach that has defined Psychiatric & Psychological Specialties since its founding. Investment in advanced clinical training, interdisciplinary dialogue, and sustainable systems of care reflects a commitment to the future of the field and to the clinicians who practice within it.

Dr. Raghu’s legacy lives on not only in memory, but in daily practice. It is present in how we listen, how we care for patients, how we support one another, and how we remain accountable to our values. As the practice moves forward, it does so with gratitude for its origins and a shared commitment to carrying that vision into the future with humility, intention, and care.
