Patrick Byrnes is an experienced therapist affiliated with Psychiatric and Psychological Specialties and LifeLab Chicago. Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Patrick brings a wealth of expertise gained from working in various mental health settings, including private practice, university drug and alcohol counseling centers, community addiction centers, and community mental health centers.

Patrick's educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from the prestigious University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then pursued a Master of Science degree and Education Specialist degree (ED.S.) in Counseling and Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University – Bloomington, further solidifying his expertise. Additionally, Patrick completed fellowships at the renowned Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy and the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, enhancing his theoretical and practical knowledge. Patrick is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Michigan, enabling him to serve a diverse clientele across multiple states. Patrick's diverse clinical background encompasses couple's and family therapy, parent guidance, EAP counseling, and individual therapy for both children and adults. Actively involved in the training program at PPS, Patrick finds joy in sharing his expertise and encouraging the growth of aspiring professionals.  

Embracing an integrative approach to psychotherapy and health, Patrick skillfully blends psychodynamic, family systems, humanistic, multicultural, and cognitive-behavioral techniques. Patrick’s skillset and experience allows him to provide a more catered approach for each individual and their needs. His specific passions lie in understanding how culture shapes our worldview, the profound impact of relationships on our identity, and how we construct meaning in our lives.
